The value of seeing my parents, well, they are into their 70's and show zero signs of "slowing down".

I love them very much, but am currently a mite peeved at them, since I asked Dad if he would give me enough frequent flyer miles for my (Oct. 25) birthday to go out and see Doctor Atomic, but nooooo ...

Somehow he and Mom twisted that into "well, we have this season subscription and you could come to Pittsburgh and see Ariadne auf Naxos." As IF!

As IF I hadn't seen Ariadne enough times or done enough opera workshops on it (to risk an evening of sitting on my hands and biting my tongue for an uneven performance, at best).

As IF an old Ariadne in Pittsburgh could substitute satisfactorily for one of the BRAND NEW Doc Atomic's in San Fransisco.

I guess they just want me to visit, but I really want to go to SF! (And I truly don't know how we'll handle it when those two "retire" ...)Princess Alpenrosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02745033267349506217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9458752.post-1128153758503886872005-10-01T04:02:00.000-04:002005-10-01T04:02:00.000-04:00Somewhat iffy, I think. (Despite their respective backgrounds, Petrova does far better with Zerbinetta's words than Damrau -- in fact better, I think, than anyone since Erna Berger.) Eaglen, I suspect, will be an amusing Prima Donna and an unfocused Ariadne, though much depends on whether the director can keep her from sleepwalking through the thing as is her wont. Don't know the rest of the cast. The production, from Seattle, sounds silly (that wretched Composer-Zerbinetta reunion cliche again!). Don't know if that bothers you as much as it does me.

Overall, I don't know, and obviously can't weigh the value of seeing your parents.JSUhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02477558636942883735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9458752.post-1128131690017287382005-09-30T21:54:00.000-04:002005-09-30T21:54:00.000-04:00My parents keep bugging me to go out to Pittsburgh...My parents keep bugging me to go out to Pittsburgh and see their Ariadne.
