Lieder week

This week on the calendar: Barbara Bonney -- whose latest disc was recently liveblogged at Prima la musica -- gives a masterclass starting about five minutes ago, followed by recitals on Friday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, Matthias Goerne's lieder recital tonight isn't sold out. Perhaps it's to do with this bizarre article? Surely a mention of the songs' -- especially "Im Triebhaus", which has quite a bit of the Act 3 prelude in it -- connection to Tristan and its identity-scrambling theme was in order.

(Which reminds me, isn't there some sort of shouting contest scheduled for Wednesday? Hmm.)

  1. Magically, I knew that's where you were going with "shouting contest."

Maybe the fact that there are still tickets for Goernelieder has to do with the fact that they all cost $48. Which is a deal if you're in front, not that great if you're in back. Too rich for the likes of me, so I'm not going, despite the fact he's one of the few people that would get me to a song recital.

  2. So are you going tomorrow?

I'm still up in the air about it. Honestly, I'd be more excited if there were more Wray than just the bit o'Brangaene.

  3. Oddly enough, I'm having a hard time talking myself into going. I'm not even sure why. I guess, breaking it down, I don't like the Beethoven or Weber much, I have to be in the mood for Tris & Is, and I think DV's fached herself out of stuff like Dich Teure Halle. I'd love to hear the Siegfried. It's probably not enough, especially considering last week's subway fiasco. If she were singing the Immolation, I'd go.

Absolutely no axe-grinding, please.
